Literary History of Translation/Park Seul-gi, Lee Hyeong-jin, Cheon Chun-hwa, Jeong Gi-in

This course examines the history of Korean literature in translation, focusing on the reception of foreign literature through translation and the spread of Korean literature. Specifically, this course focuses on the perspective that literary translation is not simply a matter of converting the language of a work, but rather the creation of new concepts and perceptions surrounding the literary work. From this perspective, we examine the relationship between the translation of early modern foreign literature and modern Korean literature, examining its discursive practices in detail. Furthermore, we outline the translation of Korean literature in various language spheres and examine its specific aspects, thereby identifying the ways in which Korean literature has spread through translation. Through this, we also delve into the significance of the selection and translation of Korean literature in other linguistic spheres.
