This course seeks to build understanding of Korean society and culture through Korean television drama. Students will learn about the history and characteristics of Korean TV drama, using this as a foundation to understand various aspects of Korean society. Examinations of specific works will reveal a range of important subjects including modern and contemporary politics, patriarchal/anti-patriarchal ideology, youth and love, crime and justice, fantasy, and aging and disability, enabling students to identify the aesthetic features and cultural elements of Korean TV drama.
